About the Area
The \"Temple\" in the place name relates to the Knights Templar who held the manors of Camley and Cloud around 1200. The 12th century Crusader church of St James stands a short walk away across fields with wall-paintings and a sculpture from the period.

Temple Cloud is a village within the beautiful Chew Valley equally accessible to Wells, Bath and Bristol with all providing wide ranges of amenities and facilities. There is good road access and a half-hourly bus service to Bristol and Wells stops 20 yards from the gate. Mainline train stations are situated at Bath and Bristol and Bristol International airport is within a short drive. There are excellent state and independent schools in the area including Cameley Primary School in Temple Cloud (with a recent outstanding OFSTED report). Chew Valley Secondary School is highly regarded and Downside, All Hallows, Wells Cathedral School, Millfield and the Bath and Bristol schools are all in reach. Sporting amenities include several golf courses, a tennis club and sailing at Chew Valley Lake.

Description
Oxford House is in the centre of the village and is believed to have been built between 1750 and 1780 by the Hippisley family of Ston Easton. Later it was the local doctor\'s house for a number of generations. Listed items of note include the sash windows, fan light and in the study the Georgian fittings comprising the chair rail, wall panels, acanthus frieze cornice, shutters, chimney-piece with swags and lotus capitals and on either side a buffet niche with original shelving. There are fine examples of Art Nouveau fireplaces in bedrooms and polished floorboards.

This large property retains these period details, boasting vast character, attractive views, lots of good living space and gas central heating. The accommodation is very flexible and as well as being a wonderful family home is also suited to combining commercial use if required. The main entrance is on the side of the house and opens into the main reception hall with a fireplace and fitted bookshelves. The Drawing Room and Sitting Room face due south and both have French doors to the terrace and gardens beyond. A short flight of steps from the hall leads down to the music room, and through to the dining room which has a wood burning stove, A rear hall with separate entrance, back stairs, butler\'s pantry, cloakroom and utility room opens to a kitchen/breakfast room with a gas Aga and fitted units. The breakfast area has French doors to the garden.

On the first floor is a large central galleried landing, a cloakroom and the back stairs with a curved stair lift. The study is a delightful room with a central fireplace and arched alcoves. The main bathroom is very appealing with a central roll edge bath. The 2 main bedrooms on this floor are south facing with excellent views. Also on this floor is a suite including a living room, shower room and kitchen area with a doorway into bedroom 1. This enables the suite to be used as a self contained apartment if needed. On the next two floors are 5 bedrooms and another bathroom.

Outside
The house faces south across its grounds. There is a large terrace with a balustrade on the southern side approached by several French doors from the main living areas of the house. Beyond are the gardens which are mainly laid to lawn with mature trees and shrubs together with a pond and fruit & vegetable areas. Total approaching two acres.

Agents note
There is current planning consent for the construction of a conservatory to join the L shaped kitchen at the rear of the property. Consent was also granted, but has now lapsed. for a detached stone annexe to be built in the rear garden to provide ancillary living accommodation. We advise any buyers interested in this matter to take independent planning advice on this matter.

Directions
Once in the village of Temple Cloud, turn off the A37 towards Cameley and the house is on the left hand side opposite the village green.
