Property Description

Chandlers is part of a medieval hall house and is one of the most important; and understood to be the oldest, buildings in Linton. This gives it Grade II* Listed status, one of fewer than 500 buildings on the whole of Cambridgeshire given this accolade, many of which are historic Churches. The house has an enormous amount of period character and many important features including carved timbers and barge boards, exterior pargetting, an old fire hook on an outside wall and the remains of an intricate plaster frieze within one of the bedrooms. An original crest of Adam the Chaundler, from where the house gets its name and which depicts a pelican, is understood to have been removed for safekeeping in around 1930 and now has a place in the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology Cambridge.

Often this level of historic importance and character means the building makes a very compromised home, but this is not the case with Chandlers. There are three good size reception rooms with comfortable ceiling heights, including a handsome main sitting room and a lovely, bright modern garden room. The dining room has broad stripped floorboards and opens into a charming hand built kitchen with granite worktops and a butler sink. There is a modern bathroom and separate cloakroom and a staircase rising from a brick-floored central hallway. On the first floor there are two generous double bedrooms and a third single bedroom.

The house stands on the High Street with its entrance door at the rear, accessed by its own private side gate. The rear garden is about 85 feet long and is walled to two sides giving it excellent privacy. There is a neat lawn, shrub borders and a paved patio and a winding block paved pathway leading to a useful timber shed at the far end.

This is an exceptionally rare opportunity to own what is both a significant historic house and a very fine home.
